Dheerna Matsubara is a ceramicist working across porcelain, stoneware and Bizen ware, trained under a 19th-generation Bizen master. With Prajapati potters in her Indian maternal lineage, her practice explores inheritance, belonging and impermanence.
MĀYĀ brings together 555 hand-formed dog heads, each subtly different — some raw, others fired in porcelain or Bizen. Through repetition and simple gestures of devotion, the work questions how we assign value: what we preserve, worship, or allow to disappear. Everything begins with earth; eventually, everything returns to it.
